CSRTI, Mysore since from establishment in the year 1962, has been able to develop a large number of technologies covering all aspects of sericulture from soil to yearn. As a result of recent advances in sericulture research which has resulted in development of technology package for quality silk production of international grade. New technology package comprising of high yielding mulberry varieties, improved cultivation practices, high yielding silkworm races, cost effective rearing methodologies and control measures for mulberry and silkworm diseases and pests has improved quality and productivity at all levels, namely leaf cocoon and yarn enabled to achieve the international standards.
Large-scale transfer of the proven crucial technologies is the important task to realize the fruits of research findings in the field. As a part of this important activity, this Institute has started two important programmes, namely publication of bi-monthly News letter called “Reshmi Vahini” and opening of a Farmers Service enter keeping the farmers as the major targets.
Objectives
The important objectives of the Farmers’ service Centre are:
- Providing first hand information on new technologies.
- Creating awareness among the farmers about the economic gains of sericulture.
- Providing on spot solutions to the problems faced by the farmers.
- Making the farmers to see and believe by witnessing the live demonstration.
- Suitable solutions to the farmers’ problems by their visit to mulberry garden and silkworm rearing.
- Extended all technical support and advice to new sericulturists.
Facilities
To fulfill the above objectives, the following facilities and programmes are made available at Farmers’ Service Centre.
- Audio-visual presentation.
- Farmers’ museum with exhibiting all technologies in the local language.
- Literature in the form of booklets, pamphlets and books in the local language.
- Visit to different laboratories for solving problems faced by farmers.
- Accommodation for overnight stay.
- On spot training cum demonstration.
- Information on training programmes being conducted.
- Information on prices of silkworm seeds, chawki and cocoon etc.
- Sample of appliances, equipments and machineries on payment basis.
- Free counseling from subject matter specialist.
The farmers soon after their arrival will be registered, followed by enlisting of their problems/ request. Based on the type of request, suitable arrangement will be made to fulfill their needs.
