Electron Microscopy Unit

The Electron Microscope – JEOL 100 CXII with ASID 4D Scanning Attachment was installed in 1986. By 1990 the EM Unit was fully equipped witgh all the allied equipments like, ultramicrotome, Vacuum Evaporator, Critical Point Drier, Sputter Coater etc. This is the only EM facility center for the Central Silk Board. The EM has been fully operational till date without having any major breakdown so far. Presently two scientists experienced in electron microscopy are working in the unit.

  • Ultrastructural studies on silkworms, their host plants, and their pests and pathogens.
  • To identify and characterize ultrastructural features of the target organisms and their structures.
  • Identification of ultrasxstructural characters of the organisms in relation to their biology and function.
  • Ultrastructural studies on various diseases affecting silkworms and their host plants to identify the pathogen and the process of disease development.
